7th March 2004 - removed some outdated browser-sniffing scripts which had been intended to prevent the dHTML pages crashing pre-level 4 browsers, but which for all I know could be restricting access for more recent browsers than I use myself ... they also stopped the Back button from working, which even I found confusing. The site should continue to work as usual; let me know if it doesn't. Also added more links and updated the Calendar page with details of a reading by Tom Leonard in Glasgow on 12th March 2004.
24th January 2004 - added a quick explanatory note about the Freebase Accordion links page, and a Calendar of events which might be worth checking out.
23rd October 2003 - most of the site is now laid out using stylesheets rather than HTML tables. Longer pages will load a bit faster than before, but everything should look roughly the same. Some formatting will be lost with very old browsers (e.g. Netscape 3), but the content should still be readable.
19th October 2003 - added an (ongoing) compilation of the subject lines of unsolicited penis-enlargement emails.
17th September 2003 - paper and electronic versions of my book Adjunct: an Undigest are included in the exhibition Northern Grammar at Sølvberget, the cultural centre in Stavanger, Norway. - first attempts at supporting Netscape 6. The DHTML animations representing The Windmills of Alasdair's Mind and Three Wise Alasdairsdo now appear to work (albeit sluggishly) with Netscape 6 -- try Reloading the page if there's a problem. The Searchable Adjunct Extract also seems to work, though the vertical scrollbar on the Search Results page doesn't (try clicking with the left mouse button somewhere within the results page, and using the arrow keys to scroll up and down). The site should still work normally in other browsers. [Update 22nd April 2001: the scrollbar problem is listed as a "most frequently reported" Mozilla bug at Bugzilla, and has presumably been inherited by Netscape 6].
12th & 15th January 2001 - changed page layouts and backgrounds for improved readability and better display at screen resolutions greater than 640 x 480.
1st January 2001 - rearranged and expanded the Links page, added more Poems.
(1st June 1999 - first version of Freebase Accordion launched on AOL. A skeletal snapshot of this version has been preserved at the Internet Archive. The site was transferred to Freeserve a year later.)
