Adjunct Travesty

The form below allows you to process an extract from Adjunct: an Undigest, and/or a text of your own choosing, through a text-generating algorithm modelled on the program TRAVESTY by Hugh Kenner and Joseph O'Rourke (as described in the book SENTENCES by Charles O. Hartman and Hugh Kenner, Sun and Moon Press 1995). I should stress that this implementation of the algorithm is entirely mine, and all complaints about its ineptitude should be sent to the address on the homepage. The page may take a few moments to load.

Select a garbledness level:

How long do you want the Adjunct Travesty to be (in characters)?
(longer travesties take longer to generate)

Optional: You can also type or paste text of your own choosing into the box below. This can either be blended with the Adjunct Extract, or used to generate a travesty with no Adjunct-derived content. Long texts work best: it is possible to paste the text of entire novels into the box. You may need to experiment before finding a text which works.

Do you want your travesty to be derived:

Depending on the length of the text(s) and the speed of your computer, the travesty may take up to a minute, or even longer, to appear. While it is being generated, a countdown will be displayed in the status line of your browser (bottom left of screen): when the count reaches zero, your travesty will be displayed.
